             12  Edt Lessons

The 12 sessions in the Essential Driver Training (EDT) program are aimed at:

  • Preparing you for the practical driving test;
  • Teaching essential driving skills and behaviors (driving habits) that every learner driver should possess;
  • Supporting your progress, and emphasizing the roles of the Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) and Sponsor (the person who accompanies you during practice) in this process.

Additionally, we have created a separate Learner Driver Training (LDT) syllabus, which outlines the 'best practices' that both you and your ADI should follow to develop the comprehensive knowledge, skills, and behaviors required to be a safe and responsible driver. As you learn to drive, you should gradually acquire all these skills, with the EDT program specifically concentrating on the most critical driving abilities.

Essential Driver Training Syllabus
The EDT program does not encompass the entire LDT syllabus. Instead, it focuses on the driving behaviors most strongly linked to accidents and injuries. The EDT aims to enhance the driver’s knowledge, understanding, and behavior, with the goal of reducing the risk of harm to both the learner driver and other road users by addressing and, if necessary, correcting the driver’s:

  • Habits
  • Attitudes
  • Skills

Driver Training

The 6 sessions in the Reduced Essential Driver Training (EDT) program are designed to:

  • Help you prepare for the practical driving test;
  • Cover key skills and behaviors (driving habits) essential for returning foreign drivers;
  • Support your progress; and
  • Emphasize the role of the Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) in the process.

We have also created a distinct Learner Driver Training (LDT) syllabus, which outlines the 'best practices' for you and your ADI to follow in order to develop the complete set of knowledge, skills, and behaviors required for safe and responsible driving. While the Reduced EDT program is focused on the most critical driving abilities, it is a part of a broader learning process.

Reduced Essential Driver Training Syllabus
The Reduced EDT program does not cover the full LDT syllabus. Instead, it prioritizes the driving behaviors that research indicates are most closely linked to accidents and injuries. The Reduced EDT works with the driver to enhance their knowledge, understanding, and behavior, aiming to reduce the risk of harm to both the driver and other road users by identifying and, if needed, correcting the driver’s:

  • Habits
  • Attitudes
  • Skills

Preparing for your test

About the driving test and helping you to prepare for it. 

The driving test checks your knowledge of the Rules of the Road, your ability to drive competently and safely in accordance with those rules and with regard for other road users. The test takes about 45 minutes in total. Expect to be driving for at least 30 mins. Question and Answer session in the Test Centre Office which will include 5 or 6 questions on the Rules of the Road and 5 or 6 signs and then out to the car for a practical driving test of your driving skills and awareness.
